How BUSY At Work partnered with Altivio to extend apprentice support beyond face-to-face touchpoints.

The Project

BUSY At Work supports thousands of apprentices and trainees across Australia. With a large, geographically dispersed and predominantly mobile-first cohort, the organisation needed a better way to:

  • Communicate consistently with apprentices and trainees
  • Provide easy access to tools, resources and key information
  • Identify early indicators of disengagement or wellbeing concerns, enabling proactive support
  • Strengthen engagement outside of scheduled check-ins

Traditional communication channels alone weren’t enough to meet these needs at scale. BUSY At Work required a secure, members-only digital platform that could complement face-to-face support while remaining accessible, flexible and easy to use, wherever apprentices and trainees were, and on whatever device they relied on most.

The Solution: BAZ – BUSY Apprenticeship Zone

Altivio Consulting partnered closely with BUSY At Work to design and deliver BAZ (BUSY Apprenticeship Zone), a purpose-built, members-only digital platform tailored to the realities of apprenticeship and traineeship support at scale.

Designed with the end user firmly in mind, BAZ was built to be fully mobile-friendly, enabling apprentices and trainees to access support on-site, on the move, or outside standard working hours.

BAZ provides a central hub where members can:

  • Access tailored articles, tools and resources
  • Receive important updates and reminders
  • Unlock exclusive offers and perks
  • Stay connected to support throughout their apprenticeship or traineeship journey

To drive ongoing engagement, BUSY At Work introduced a monthly “What’s New in BAZ” email, highlighting new content, resources and features and encouraging members to return to the platform regularly.

Human-centred design: Wellbeing built in

Wellbeing wasn’t treated as an add-on. It was designed into the platform from day one.

At first login, each apprentice and trainee is asked a simple wellbeing check-in question. If a low score is selected, the system triggers an alert, allowing BUSY At Work’s mentoring teams to proactively reach out.

This approach:

  • Normalises conversations about wellbeing
  • Enables early intervention
  • Strengthens trust between apprentices and support staff

BAZ goes beyond content delivery. It acts as a genuine, always-on support mechanism that enhances BUSY At Work’s existing service model.

The Bigger Picture

BAZ demonstrates how the right technology can do more than distribute information. When designed with purpose and sector insight, it can:

  • Meet users where they are — on mobile and on demand
  • Strengthen relationships at scale
  • Support wellbeing through proactive design
  • Drive ongoing engagement through smart, consistent communication

For BUSY At Work, BAZ is now a foundational part of how they support apprentices and trainees, today and into the future. For organisations supporting people at scale, it shows what’s possible when digital solutions are built around real-world service delivery, not just systems.

Altivio Consulting has been a great partner for us in developing BAZ (BUSY Apprenticeship Zone), a digital platform designed to support and connect our apprentices and trainees. Over the past year, the team has taken the time to really understand how our business operates and the challenges we’re trying to solve, working closely with us to build something that is practical, intuitive, and genuinely useful.

The support from Altivio hasn’t stopped since the platform launched. The commitment shown in developing resources and training videos for our team has been truly invaluable, which has contributed towards the successful launch of the platform. They’re approachable, responsive and proactive with every task that is asked of them. Nothing is ever an issue, and it often feels like they’re an extension of our own team rather than an external provider. A pleasure to work with.
